McKee’s NH Economic Suggestions – March 2024

AI and Wildfires

The Federal government is intervening through NOAA to allocate resources of $800,000 toward the projected October launching of the new MyRadar satellites. The satellites are a more efficient resource in helping identify wildfires. The opportunity cost of continuing to utilize existing technology instead of AI includes lower reliability in detecting fires. There is a longtime tradition of fire spotting, but there is an increased demand for more effective ways to spot wildfires.

Economic Equality Book

It is tradition in our culture for women to be paid less than men. The government intervened after WWII to provide economic resources for men who served through the GI Bill, but women who served were excluded, which was a huge opportunity cost for the women. Resource allocation in the realm of child care is being demanded by the author. The Equal Pay Act and Title IX are both examples of government intervention, but the changes have not solved the problems.
