News Hour Example #2 - Good Submission

California’s “Salad Bowl”:
Salinas Valley, a city in California is a major producer of farming goods in the nation. Up to 70% of lettuce in the United States is grown there and produces about $50 billion a year. Recently the farm has paired up with new technology that can improve the efficiency of the farm. It’s an app called Heavy Connect and it allows the workers on the farm to spend more time farming instead of managing the farm because the app has to capability to do that on its own. This app was developed in silicon valley, which is very different in comparison to Salinas. Silicon valley's main demographic white and Asian with a high income economy, while Salinas’ main demographic is Hispanic with few economic opportunities. Also together both valleys are testing a new program with their college students that is teaching students high paying careers such as welding and farm machine management. The market overall seems to be improving with the new innovations that have been brought in. Also with the colleges pushing students to take interest in more high paying jobs will improve the economy. Tradition is also changing in both valleys with farming becoming more technology managed and silicon valley with colleges become more Hispanic and an even match between genders. Command isn't changing much but just expanding with the new app that is controlled by the founders and they are making sure that they can help the farmers use the app to the fullest.

Castro’s Funeral Procession:
In the events of Castro's death, people have decided that his ashes will be making the journey from Havana the capital of Cuba to Santiago, which is the opposite of the route Castro took in 1959. This journey made Castro the heroic person and savior people see him as today. He achieved this by the stories of that journey from him coming in a boat, spreading his name, winning many battles and giving amazing speeches that really captivated his listeners. During the transportation of his ashes many people are assembling on the road almost like a parade honoring him as their leader and father that they really believe him to be. People are hoping that through his death the ideals that Castro has instilled continue on through his son that will be stepping up to fill Castro’s position as president until 2018. Not everyone shares that same hope because one dissenter reveals that he doesn't like how there is no freedom of speech or multiple parties like America but isn't sure that will change following Castro’s death because his son is stepping up to continue his ideals. Even with Castro’s death Cubans are becoming more and more comfortable with the American population because of the deal between castors son and Obama but a more concerned with the tweets president-elect Donald Trump is posting. The journey of the ashes is a clever way to show tradition by taking him through the path that gave him power but reversing it to show that the strength he has put in his people is enough to get them through the path he took. Currently market is not changing in Cuba but it might be threatened by Trumps presidency, which many people are concerned by the unclear plans that Trump may be changing between the US and Cuba. Command is definitely changing because of Castro’s son coming into power but it might not as much change because it seems like he wants to continue the plans that his father was creating.
